The 2009 season is over, at least at the 106 track. We had the fun race yesterday with a decent turn out. The track didn’t need any work to clear water, but it did need a lot of love to fix the state it was in. Most of it stayed as it was I did see a couple people working on it to fix the really bad spots, but I guess the rest will wait until spring. Once the ice slick in the hairpin started to disappear some of us started practicing, and I got some pics of my E-Revo going around while being driven by Josh or Scott. Matt C. took a very quick turn with the E-Revo before giving Colin’s Evader a little monster truck treatment. Matt went to go help Colin and and took a tumble, and sprained his ankle in order to save my radio from destruction
The damage to Colin’s Evader was minor, the damage to Matt’s ankle was worse, he spent the day walking with a limp. Not long after that we gave away the gift certificates for the series, I managed to walk away with one of the $40 deals, which will come in handy (I’ll explain later). We followed that up with the awarding trophies to those of us who got a top three position in most classes. Jay got a special trophy for his 1st place win in Electric Monster. This trophy will memorialize the E-Revo he lost to an angry LiPO.
After some more practicing and creative thinking by the directors we had our plan for the day’s events. The idea of the enduro race was set aside, the number and type of cars would not have worked well I think, and would have kept some of the cars out of the race as well. We ended up doing a team race, 5 teams with 5 cars each. Some drivers ran more than one class which help fill the numbers nicely. I was in team D along with Scott (Slash), Josh(mod truck), and Dan(Buggy). The day went pretty smoothly with team E taking an early lead, and then becoming pretty much uncatchable. I had a great day racing again, I finished 1st in the monster class for 3 races. I beat Matt S., Dan’s Truggy, and Mike F’s Summit. Mike and I had some good battles on the track, as did Dan and I in the 3rd race. In the 4th race I landed on the back of the truck after a jump, and broke the entire spoiler mount off the truck. The chassis also broke, a tiny sliver, but broken nonetheless. So that’s where the gift certificate will go, new chassis and rear-end spoiler mount. I wanted to dye the chassis black, along with the rocker arms, so this will make it a little easier for me to do. I can just dye the chassis when I get it, and move everything over to the new one easily. I might keep this one as a backup, in the event of a major break and parts crisis, hehe. Luckily it was the last race of the day and season. I can take some time, rebuild the truck and clean it up a lot. Then in a few weeks I’ll be good to go down to RC Excitement and try out the indoor track. The big mystery with this break is, how the hell did I lose the body clip? The post is still there, and unbroken. The body does not have a hole in it where the clip would have ripped through, so how did it work free? I’m not worried, clips are cheap and it’s easy to remake the tabs, just curious as to how it did it. Maybe I’ll see if the CSI team can piece it together for me.
The rest of the pics are in the gallery, I added the ones of my E-Revo early in the morning to the E-Revo Brushless gallery. I also had some help from a friend of mine Eric Stern, he came up and took some pics with his camera, which is far superior to mine along with his photographer skills. The pics are labeled as Eric’s pics, and it will show anyways, they are too nice to be from my Canon. I really want to step up to the camera he has, but the price jump is double what I was planning on, and quite a bit more than what I am considering now. I realize I need something faster than the camera I have, as well as a better lens which I knew before. So maybe I’ll skip on one of the new cars for next year and go with the high end camera instead. Or maybe I’ll win the lottery and buy them both, hehe.
I’ll be going through all the pics from the season, including the Berwick race, and any of the night races, and making a best of gallery over the next week or two. So keep an eye on the site, some of the pics once they are touched up can go from being so-so to something great. I’m sure I’ll make other updates over the winter as well.
Thanks to the directors of the NEAR Club for a great race season, and to everyone else at the club and track for making it fun, and helping me get better at racing. Thanks to Eric for the awesome pics too.
