What’s going on…

I made a change to the n”Reading/Watching/Listening” thing. I am now calling it “What’s going on”. The main reason is that I might be changing the theme of this site soon, and that category title is too long for what I want to do. I could modify the theme I am working with, but it would throw off a lot, and it’s easier to change the name. The new one also seems to be better, as I might not be reading a book, watching a show, or listening to anything. This way I can put in anything I want, such as what I am playing right now (which is Battlefield: Bad Company 2). Anyways on to the weeks list.
Reading – Club Dead by Charlaine Harris.
This is the 3rd book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, these are the books True Blood on HBO is based on. I’ve already read books 1 and 2 in the series and was waiting for this one to come out. For some reason the publisher released a small hard cover version of books 1, 3, 4 and 5, then they released book 2 later. Not sure what that is all about but whatever. Either way to cover a little of the stories for the uninitiated they are vampire books. Some might say vampire romance I guess, but there is a lot of action, which is one the reason I like them. Sookie Stackhouse (the main character) is a twenty-something girl living in a very small town in Louisiana. The first book begins two years after vampires “came out of the coffin”. The world knows they exist, and as you might expect not everyone is happy about it, from either party. Sookie is not your average human girl however, she has the ability to read minds basically. The story starts off with Sookie working at her job as a waitress in a bar, when the towns first vampire comes in. From that point on Sookie’s life is never really the same again. I won’t go further than that, you can read the books or watch the show to find out the rest. If you do either of those, please keep in mind, they are NOT the same. The shows are altered quite a bit, and are an amalgam of several stories and side stories from the books. So watching the shows does not necessarily ruin the books, and vice versa. Watching the first two seasons of the show will give you a lot of whats in the first two books, but not everything, and not quite the same as the books. They are definitely worth the read, show or not.
I finished Horns over the weekend. I won’t go into any detail, you can check my last post, Reading/Watching/Listening, for that.
Watching – Nothing new here, House, Lost, Fringe (next month), Flashforward (this thursday). I’m also looking forward to a new show called Happy Town which starts on ABC April 28th. It looks like a spooky thriller type show. Hopefully it’s good, and more importantly if it is, hopefully it last more than one season. I don’t want any repeats of Jericho to happen.
Listening – Still listening to a lot of Muse (mostly in the car so as not to annoy Jess). I also have been listening to Michael Bublé quite a bit lately.
I used to dismiss him as a loser, but I was wrong. His music is actually very good. He doesn’t seem to do much of his own music, but he covers a lot of my favorites, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Elvis, to name a few. If you enjoy that type of music, Jazz, Lounge, whatever you want to call it, he is worth a shot. Other than those two it’s the usual stuff in iTunes. Shuffle will play something from Avenged Sevenfold, followed by Bobby Darin, then over to something from Sweeney Todd. Eclectic doesn’t do justice to describe my musical tastes.
Playing – Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which I mentioned above.
I was a big fan of Battlefield 1942, and to a lesser degree Battlefield 2. This game is great, a perfect replacement for an updated Battlefield 1942. It has a single player campaign, which I have not played yet. This is because for some reason the game does not want to play the voices of the characters in the game at all. I have yet to find a fix to this, or much info on their forums. In the meantime, I have been playing multi-player though. This was my main reason for buying the game. The multi-player here is everything you’d want in my opinion. The usual “classes” are in there, Assault, Engineer, Medic, Recon. You do gain points in each class when you make kills and whatnot, which earns you rewards and new weapons. This is a great system, but it does have a downside too. For a new player like myself, I find that I cannot even hurt some of the players who started when the game released. They have body armor, 12x scopes for the sniper rifles, more powerful guns, etc… It makes it difficult to catch up, that and the fact that I suck at multi-player.
I’m not doing too bad though. I’ve managed to get some new unlocks, and whatnot, and I am not a total suck ass player. I’m not the super sniper, or the assault guy that can jump a wall and kill all five enemies hiding behind it. I’m usually they guy who0 gets shot trying to find out where the hell that bullet came from. Nonetheless the game is fun, and worth picking up. I’m playing on the PC through Steam, so I can’t say how the PS3 or XBOX 360 versions are, but they seem popular so I’m sure they’re just as good.
In other news, I might be changing the theme for this site soon, assuming I can find or edit one to fit what I want. I’m also planning on moving the galleries out of WordPress itself, and into a true photo gallery system. I have a first attempt using Gallery2 setup here, www.gallery.coreytess.net (still working out why the hell the www get added, damn .htaccess files). I wanted to get a start on this as the outdoor RC racing season is going to start sometime next month. I plan on a lot more pictures this year. I have more cards for pics, and I am going to rent a nicer lens for a weekend or two to see if I should buy a new lens, or a whole new camera. I might also just happen to have some big news coming, expect to see something by the weekend.
For now, have fun and keep it between the ditches.
