The “BIG NEWS”!!

- March 19, 2010 - by , in Blog, Life, with no comments -

So I mentioned in my last post that I might have big news soon. Obviously based on the title of this post, I do have big news. No I didn’t win the lottery, although I did try. I got a new job. I wanted to keep this on the down low until I had the offer itself, and I had told my current employer WSOL. The last thing I’d want to happen is to get a call from my boss asking me why they read about it on the internet first. That assumes someone from the company even reads my blog. Thanks to Google Analytics, it looks like someone out in the Chicago area hits my blog, so I am guessing they do, occasionally.

You’re probably wondering what this wonderful new job is that could pull me away from WSOL and working from home. Well the job is at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in Manchester. I’ll be staying in the web world, as an Associate Web Developer. I was hoping for the title “Master of the Interwebs”, but they said no (kidding). I’ll be starting the new job on April 5th. I’m really excited about the new job, and wanted to mention this before, but I did not for the reasons mentioned above. A few weeks ago I had posted on Facebook that I wish I had the means to make a change. That was mostly based on the fact that I wanted to go back to school to turn my lowly Associate’s Degree into a Bachelor’s, or even better a Master’s. Alas, my income did not meet the requirements for today’s tuition, and loans are out of the question. As luck would have it, a recruiting agency has been contacting me for quite some time now, but with no luck because I was reluctant to make a change. However my priorities shifted and I finally got in touch, and was pleasantly surprised to find the opportunity they had for me was at SNHU. I did a phone interview, then a real interview, then came the offer.

The whole thing happened really fast, which is great, after all nobody likes waiting for an answer after an interview. I am still kind of in shock that it happened so quickly, but this is a great thing. The job sounds great, the team I met were fun to meet, and I am sure working with them will be great too. Even the office was cool. It’s right in downtown Manchester. Anyone who has driven 293 through Manchester has seen the building. It’s tough to find, but it’s one of the old mill buildings on the river, with the gigantic red SNHU.EDU sign. ;) The office looks out over the river, which is a cool thing, and its all pretty new. I’ll try and take some pics with the phone once I get settled.

So it’s been a busy week or two for me with everything going on. I was nervous about giving WSOL the news. That is never a fun conversation. Don’t get me wrong, working for WSOL has been great. I’ve learned quite a bit, and working from home was badass, but I would have been stupid to not try to get this job, so I did. So I’ll be moving on. My time at WSOL is coming to an end, and to sound as cheesy as possible, a new chapter begins. What can I say, I LOVE cheese, both the food, and the…? What the hell do you call that kind of word… Slang? Homophone? Homonym? I ‘m not sure, but you get the idea, especially if you have had to endure my jokes ;)

Anyways, that was the big news. I hope you all, however many of you there are, enjoyed the suspense. In other news, I’m trying to stop biting my fingernails again. This time I am trying to use clear nail polish to keep me from doing it. I’ve been biting my nails for as long as I can remember, but a lot of times I take it to the next level. I bite the area around the nail. It really is a horrible habit, and a pain in the ass to break. I did it once before, several years ago, for about a year or two. I don’t remember when I broke and started doing it again, but it’s been like 4 years, and it needs to stop for good. Say what you want about me using nail polish, I don’t care. If it keeps me from biting my nails, great. Hopefully this works out and I can kick the habit once and for all. Then the only addiction I will have left is books. That is a story for another day though.

As always, have fun, and keep it between the ditches ;)
