Saturday was the beginning of the 2010 race season at 106 Race Park. I showed up with my freshly rebuilt E-Revo, and my not so fresh Slash 4×4. Turnout looked great at the start, however as the day wore several drivers left, including myself. I am not sure if it was just the heat, or the combination of that and a battery charger acting up, but I decided I wasn’t in the mood to keep going, somewhere around 3 or 4. I am not sure what the deal was, but my Triton EQ2 started having issues. My best guess is that it doesn’t like being left out in the heat. It seemed to be ok after some time in the shade, so hopefully it’ll be fine for the next race. I still think I need new batteries and now possibly a new charger. I am just reluctant to pay for them as those are the two things I hate buying most. I’m not sure why, but I just don’t like buying the batteries. They are pricey, the same goes for the chargers. I also never know which way to go. Buy more batteries for less money, i.e Turnigy packs, or buy one pair of really great packs. For the price of 1 pair of Maxamps batteries, I could buy something like 8 Turnigy packs. I am not talking about cutting down on the mAh rating or number of cells either. They are usually close, something like 5000 mAh Turnigy and 6500 mAh Maxamps, both 2S. I know all batteries are created equal, but from what some folks say, all cells are. So Maxamps, if you’re listening, send me two LiPO or LiFE packs for my E-Revo, I’ll review and support you guys if they really are worth the cash. I’m sure that will happen.
The E-Revo still needs some fine tuning I think. I had some noticeable pulling to the left again. I still don’t get how that keeps happening, I spent a decent amount of time getting the servo centered and everything, but I guess that is what throttle trim is for. I am glad to be driving the E-Revo again though. I like the Slash 4×4, it’s a great truck, but I like the monster class a lot more. I just wish it was a bigger class. This actually brings me to a related subject. I’m going to be selling the Slash 4×4 most likely. I like the truck, but I just don’t think I want to run two classes. At least not these two classes. Part of it is the order, I don’t like racing back to back, I feel rushed. The other part is, I just don’t think the Slash is that big a departure from my E-Revo. I had my heart set on an 1/8th scale buggy, and I should have gone that road. For now though I think I am going to go back to one class. So if anyone is interested let me know. It’s a Slash 4×4 Platinum Edition. It will come ARTR. I am keeping my radio, but I’ll leave the Spektrum DSM2 receiver in the Slash 4×4. I’ll also probably leave the transponder in the truck, or sell it separately if someone is interested. I’ve got my name on a new one for the E-Revo through the club, and I’ll just put that in the E-Revo. If it comes down to it, I’ll take the receiver out too I guess. I know leaving it with a DSM2 limits my potential buyer to someone with a DX3R. I’ll post something on the 106 Race Park forums to start, and move the RCTech.net if it doesn’t go after a week or so.
On a happier note, I got to finally use the new camera the way I intended to use it, and it is a major improvement. I added the new pics in two places (just to confuse and frustrate everyone). There are resized images on my gallery site. Spring Series 2010 Race I, and I put the full size pics over on my Flickr account. I got some really nice picks of the HPI Blitz being driven by John A., along with some other great action shots of a Revo and Losi 8ight 2.0 E. Next time we race I’ll have to ask someone to drive the E-Revo around so I can get some nice picks of it going around the track again.
That’s about it for this week. I looked at the weather for next week, and based on what I saw, RAIN, I’ll be going to see Iron Man 2. So it looks like I’ll see everyone in 2 weeks, assuming the weather stops screwing us out of a hobby.
Have fun and keep it between the ditches!
